More fun things!

Since I last posted here, about 13 hours ago or so, not a whole lot has happened. I have had a house dinner, which was awesome. I got to spend time with Lucinda and started relearning the guitar, which is something i have decided I will do. I will have to find a guitar somewhere for a decent amount of money (about $70 or so I think, maybe $100.) I played guitar, well I took lessons when I was in about fifth grade or so. I miss it, and now that two people that live with Lucinda have their guitars out at the house it has compeled me to learn again and maybe learn worship music and the like, as well as maybe do a little writing of my own.

That is all that has happened since my wonderful post about dork. More to come in the next couple days. Oh! and mom, if you are reading, could you take a look around my room for my guitar book? It was green I think, spiral bound and was made of music paper, had a bunch of stuff in it. Coupld you also maybe take a look at Milford Muisc and see what they are selling new and used guitars for?

Dork is in fact an acceptable word in every day discussion

Yesterday night I was at Lucinda's (the women's gap house) and a fellow gapper named Ranjit came over. Ranjit, who is from Bahrain says that 'dork' is something along the lines of large mammal testicles, such as those of a whale or elephant.

The inhabitants of the women's gap house and I disagreed with him so I set out to set thing right; I consulted the Oxford English Dictionary in Central Michigan Univerities Charles V. Park Library. Before I get into what it actually said let me say that the OED is known for being the best dictionary of the english language with the most complete etymologies and all occurences of each word, what the word was in its origonal language if it is one other than english and it also will give you the original meaning in the original language.

The following is what was said in the OED about DORK:

Dork:(Etymology, etc.) Slang (chiefly U.S) origin uncertain, a variation of DIRK; influenced by DICK.

Def: 1. The penis.

Explaination: 1964 from American Speech XXXIX 'The word dick itself serves as a a model for two variants which are probably Midwestern, dirk and dork, also meaning penis.

Def: 2. A foolish or stupid person; also a general term of contempt.

There is also a second occurance in the OED which is defined as ' an obscure form of Dark'

All in all this proves Ranjit completly wrong; it also disspells the wives tail he was referencing. I did this not soley to prove Ranjit wrong, but also to show him what it really means that that we are correct in calling someone a dork. In fact I will have to use it around him more often I think.

Good day there.

It's been quite a while since I last posted here hasn't it? I must apologize as I have been mostly busy with papers and exams and all that other wonderful college stuff. I have also managed to zap the index file for this here weblog of mine so thee may or may not be other posts here besides the one that says 'test'. I will make some attempt to keep a back up of all this incase this sort of thing happens again but I cannot promise anything. In other site related news you may notice that I resized the picture on the homepage. One of my friends who was there when the picture was taken noticed that I has indeed stretched the crap out of it and urged me to change it back so I did.

In other important life news Lucinda and I celebrated the one year anniverery of when we started dating on the 21st, now yesterday. It was most excellent; we went to Bennigins for dinner and then out to see '50 First dates.' That was a very good film if I do say so myself. We both had an excellent time this evening and we both look forward to the next year of being together.

Well, as usual I have to get up early in the morning so I must be off to bed. I will make an attempt to update this more regularly as my intention was, but may just fall to 'as needed' updates while I am in school.
Good Night and God Bless... this is Dave Shier signing off.

Been a WhileOk, I admit.. I have been slacking... please forgive me, but I have been busy for the most part. I have had a paper due each of the last two weeks and I have yet another due on Friday. This paper is a research proposal so it should be interesting; I have to write it in APA style so I will be consulting my APA manual... a lot.... I have never actually written in APA before, just the MLA that we English types use.

Other than that paper I have an assignment due on Wednesday for my linguistics class.. this should not be too bad as it is really easy. I like this class, and my others actually, I think I will do well this semester.
Tomorrow I have class from 3:30 until 5:00, unless it gets cancelled because the professor doesn't want to drive an hour in bad snow like last Tuesday. I really can't blame her because it was really bad;however, if she cancels class again she will have to push dates back more and we will never get anything done.

Other than class I went to visit Lucinda's dad with her in the general area of Comstock Park, Michigan. He is really cool and I like to visit with him, so that is a good thing, I mean, we are talking about my future Father in Law here (not anytime soon though.) He is great, just the person he is living with until he finds a house is a smoker and Lucinda and I are both sensitive to smoke.. it was an interesting night to say the least.

Well, that is about all I can think to write at the moment.. stay tuned and I will update again (soon, I hope.)
